The Société d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE), in agreement with the City of Paris, decided to join Operation 5 minutes respite for the Planet ", which was organized to draw attention to energy consumption and its impact on global warming.
The decorative illumination of the tower will be extinct for 5 minutes on Oct. 23 between 7:55 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., security lighting remaining in operation.
The SETE, responsible for the management and operation of the Tour, wants to show its commitment to sustainable development and the preservation of our planet.
Regarding energy consumption, many activities were carried out :
- A "green electricity" with EDF (100% of the electricity supplied comes from renewables)
- A campaign to change the lamps illuminated monument conducted in 2004 / 2005 have resulted in a 30% reduction in energy
- Use management software dedicated to controlling the timing of the lighting and heating
- The elimination of refrigeration systems, water loss
The SETE provides systematically in contracts with its dealers a chapter dedicated to sustainable development (reducing energy consumption, sorting and recycling of waste, material selection healthy...).
The SETE will continue and will intensify its efforts in this direction, particularly in the implementation of important projects of renovation and modernization of the Tour, it will lead in coming years
Energy consumption of the Eiffel Tower is 7,000 megawatts, of which 6% for illumination.
